MAME 0.37b5

MAME, "Multiple arcade Machine Emulator", is an emulation software for PC whose purpose is to faithfully reproduce the operation of games and arcade systems in order to preserve the history of the video game and thus prevent certain titles from sinking into Oblivion. Since 27 May 2015, he has joined MESS3.

MAME is officially available for Windows and DOS operating systems, but has been focused on different systems. A version named SDLMAME4, using the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) Portable library, is developed to be compatible with UNIX and Mac OS X systems.

The first public version (0.1) of MAME, by Nicola Salmoria, was released on February 5, 19975. Released on October 21, 2010, version 0140 of the emulator supports more than 4 510 unique games and more than 9 012 ROMs sets, this number constantly growing. However, many games do not work, not to mention that some emulated games may become non-functional as a result of software developments. The last image (ROM) of the games concerned must be procured.

MAME is used by some individuals to create true multi-game arcade terminals based on computer hardware.
